Designing audio for a VR game was a first for me and working with a development team in 5 different timezones. Following are the tools that helped us achieve this magnificent beast of a project and successfully ship the Beta on Oculus. File management and Tracking achieved via Google spreadsheet and Meistertask, Asana. Click below to download Reaper template for 360 audio designHow to export spatial Ambisonics
So I assume you Designed and created your first 360 SOUND DESIGN Video and now are at the Worst dreaded position in the workflow, How to actually render out your Audio so Online platforms like Facebook and Youtube supports the 360 Audio interaction.
I was in the same situation where I discovered the Free tools provided by FB360 Spatial Workstation and I started diving right into designing Dynamic experiences in the Real of 360 audio and to figure out the intricate details and technical workings of 360 audio using new Software tools. So here's my brief blog on how to achieve a successful 360 Video using basic Hardware and Software. Hardware + Software360 VIDEO PLAYER Working with a 360 video is a different experience than working in Linear 2D Picture, in a sense that the DAWs we use do not support handling of 360 Videos for Editing purposes. Hence 360 Video players are best used as a Slave or a Standalone Video client with your existing DAW like - Kolor Eyes Go Pro VR Player Facebook Video Client DAW I personally use Reaper to work with Facebooks external Video client , There is a option of using Avid's Pro Tools as well but it limits your Channel number of tracks based on the Version of pro tools you can Afford to use :P But Reaper on the other hand is pretty versatile , It lets you edit 8 channels per track which is what we need for Facebooks 360 Spatial workstation specs. REAPER - Spatial Workstation Template As you may See in the Screenshot attached , The Routing for Each new track added is Shown, IMP - Things to check for every new track you create - 1. Uncheck Master Send 2.Change Tack Channels from 2 to 8 3. Add a new Send to the 3D Master Track and change Audio out to MULTICHANNEL SOURCE -> 8 Channels -> 1-8 4. On the Inserts , ADD FX -> FB 360 Spatialiser [Two Big Ears ] Routing 3D Master Track The 3D Master Track receives 8 channels from all the Tracks in the Session and then is routed and SEND to the CONTROL PLUGIN Track. CONTROL PLUGIN This tack Has the FX insert called FB 360 CONTROL, which essentially helps you control the 360 Video player and the Reaper Transport as well as other properties of the Video like the Azimuth , Elevation and Distance of the Source video. FB VIDEO PLAYER Can be used as a Slave Video player with the DAW or as a standalone Video player, But it might just not play the Audio sometimes when used as a standalone 360 Video player Hence i suggest using Go Pro VR Player to Test and Play 360 Videos on your Desktop. FB 360 ENCODER To Export Just select the Export 8 Channel Track in the bottom of the Session and make a time Selection and render the Track with Output of 8 Channels. Select your Video with the Appropriate Settings , MONO , Side By Side etc then Add your 8 Channel Audio render from Reaper and Encode ! Voila ! Please leave any Suggestion, Feedback , Comments, Questions to make this project better and to share Sound Design Skills. Usefull Links --
